Sandy Mitchell has kept his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship title ambitions firmly alive after delivering another standout performance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, securing a third consecutive podium finish in the GTD PRO class in as many rounds.

The Fewkes Huff Management athlete and Lamborghini factory driver produced another impressive display alongside Pfaff Motorsports team-mate Andrea Caldarelli, further strengthening their position in the championship fight as they head into the season finale with the title within reach.

The result continues what has been an exceptional full debut IMSA campaign for Mitchell in America, with the Scotsman having established himself as a leading contender in the highly competitive GTD PRO field.

Having arrived at Indianapolis on the back of consecutive class victories aboard Lamborghini’s new-for-2026 Temerario GT3, Mitchell and Caldarelli entered the weekend with considerable momentum.

The pair immediately set about refining the car’s set-up during practice, but their preparations were disrupted when qualifying was cancelled due to lightning in the area. As a result, the starting order was determined by championship position, placing Caldarelli third on the GTD PRO grid.

The Italian made a strong start and maintained third position during his opening stint before handing the Temerario over to Mitchell.

Mitchell rejoined the race in seventh, but wasted little time in launching a determined fightback. Combining race pace with his trademark overtaking ability, the Scotsman carved his way through the field to reclaim a place inside the top three.

With Caldarelli returning to the cockpit for the closing stages, Pfaff Motorsports successfully brought the car home to secure another podium — the pair’s third in succession.

The result has reduced the gap to the championship lead to 53 points, leaving Mitchell and Caldarelli within striking distance heading into the final round at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta from September 30 to October 3.

While Mitchell continued his charge in the United States, Fewkes Huff Management’s European contingent was also busy, with Gilles Magnus, James Sherrington, Jake Hill and Rob Huff all taking to the track across a packed weekend of international and historic racing.

At Zandvoort, Gilles Magnus added another podium to an increasingly impressive 2026 campaign in the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

The Belgian driver and Boutsen VDS team-mate Robin Knutsson delivered a consistently strong performance in the Porsche 911 GT3 R, finishing fourth in the Gold Cup class in Race 1 before stepping onto the podium in Race 2.

Magnus’ latest silverware extends his strong run of form and further underlines his influence within one of Europe’s most competitive GT championships.

Zandvoort also marked another important step in the development of teenage prospect James Sherrington, who continued his maiden GT4 European Series campaign with Mirage Racing.

Making his first competitive appearance at the Dutch circuit, Sherrington quickly adapted to the demanding 2.646-mile venue and delivered a mature and determined performance across the weekend.

The young driver played a key role in moving the #5 Toyota Supra GT4 forward in both races, providing further evidence of the pace and potential he has demonstrated throughout his debut season.

In Spain, Jake Hill brought his first full 24H Series campaign to a close at the Michelin 24H Barcelona season finale at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Sharing the Era Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3 with Dwight Merriman, Ryan Dalziel and Oliver Bryant, Hill delivered a series of very strong stints as the team challenged for Pro-Am honours. His one-lap qualifying pace was also apparent in the build-up to the race.

The Ferrari remained in podium contention until a crash involving Merriman ultimately brought the team’s challenge to an early conclusion, ending Hill and the team’s hopes of converting their pace into a representative finishing result.

Back in the United Kingdom, Fewkes Huff Management Co-Founder and former FIA World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff returned to the historic surroundings of the Goodwood Revival for a weekend celebrating some of the most iconic machinery and drivers in motorsport history.

Huff shared a pair of spectacular Jaguar E-Types with Richard Meins, while also taking to the wheel of an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA alongside Niklaus Ditting.

The event provided Huff with the opportunity to race against a host of renowned names, including NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson and Formula 1 World Champions Jenson Button and Jacques Villeneuve, in a celebration of historic motorsport that combined competition, heritage and spectacle.

Sandy Mitchell: “We gave it our best shot and only narrowly missed out on the GTD Pro title by one position in the final race. Considering we debuted the all-new Temerario for the rest of the season after the opening round, it’s been a hugely impressive campaign.

“The car has been bulletproof ever since it took to the track at Sebring in March and has never missed a beat. Everybody in the team and at Lamborghini Squadra Corse has worked tirelessly to develop the car throughout the year. To miss out on the championship by just a handful of points and one position on track is testament to all that hard work.

“It’s been great racing with Andrea and the crew at Pfaff Motorsports. Everyone associated with the No. 9 car can be immensely proud of what we’ve achieved this year with the new Temerario GT3.

“Two GTD Pro race wins at Road America and Virginia International Raceway, two additional podiums at Detroit and Indianapolis, plus second in the championship — all with a brand-new car. It’s been a very good year all round.”

Will Fewkes, Fewkes Huff Management Co-Founder: “To come within one position of winning the GTD Pro championship in his debut season is an incredible achievement for Sandy, and one that we are all extremely proud of.

“It took a couple of rounds for Sandy and the team to find their rhythm with the Temerario GT3, but since the midpoint of the season they have been one of the form teams. The two victories and two further podiums underline just how strong their second half of the campaign has been.

“The way Sandy and the team approached the finale was particularly impressive. They knew exactly what they had to do and delivered a performance that kept the championship alive right through to the final lap. To overturn such a significant points deficit and put themselves in a position to fight for the title was a remarkable achievement and a testament to Sandy, Andrea and the entire Pfaff Motorsports team.

“Sandy’s maiden IMSA season has been a huge success. It has been an incredibly exciting chapter in his career, and everyone at Fewkes Huff Management is immensely proud of what he and the team have achieved. We are excited to build on this momentum and see what the future holds.”

Rob Huff, Fewkes Huff Management Co-Founder: “First and foremost, a huge congratulations to Sandy, Andrea and the entire Pfaff Motorsports team on an incredible IMSA season.

“Their hard work saw them become genuine championship contenders as the season progressed, and seeing Sandy at the heart of that fight was fantastic. He has been one of the leading endurance racers in the UK for a long time, and now the USA knows exactly why.

“He is the ultimate professional both in and out of the car, and the speed he possesses is second to none. It would have been fantastic to see him walk away with the title, but in many ways Sandy has already proved himself a champion through what he has achieved in his debut season in the United States.

“There is now an opportunity to reflect on what has been an outstanding campaign and everything that Sandy, Andrea and the team have achieved. It has been a hugely impressive season, and I’m sure everyone involved can take enormous pride in the way they finished the year.”
